How Do You Get Up on a Wakeboard?
Knees packed, arms straight, let the boat or cable stand you up. Do not pull the handle to your chest. This is a start drill — not a trick list.
Quick Facts
- Board across the pull at the start
- Let the tension stand you
- Look at the boat or pylon, not your feet
- Handle low — if you fight the rope, you stay in the water
The Packed-Knee Start
Sit deep. Board perpendicular to the pull. Arms straight. When the rope loads, keep the handle low and let your legs uncoil as the board planes.
Common First-Timer Errors
Pulling the handle to your chest. Standing too early. Wrong foot forward without a chance to switch. Cable dock starts and deep-water starts follow the same idea: let the pull do the work.
Stance
Regular or goofy is whichever foot feels natural forward. Try both if the shop allows. See also Is Wakeboarding Hard?.
