Sedona jeep tours are sold by trail more than by company. Most run 1.5 to 2.5 hours, and the trail decides how rough the ride is, how far you climb and whether you get out to walk.

Tours by trail

• Schnebly Hill Road. Arizona Safari Jeep Tours runs the Rim Run Supreme up Schnebly Hill: 2.5 hours, ages 5 and up, $109 per adult and $89 per child.
• Soldier's Pass. Red Rock Western Jeep Tours sells a 1.5-hour Soldier's Pass Trail tour for 2 to 5 people, from $104.95, ages 3 and up. Sedona Jeep Tours also runs a Soldier's Pass tour from $104.
• Diamondback Gulch. A Day in the West runs this 2-hour trail, rated "Extreme", as a private group of up to 6 at $104.95, ages 3 and up.
• Mogollon Rim on the Old Munds Wagon trail. Earth Wisdom Tours runs a private 2-hour Mogollon Rim tour priced per person by group size: $139.95 each for two people down to $99.95 each for six. A Day in the West runs a 2-hour Mogollon Rim tour on the same wagon trail.
• Seven canyons. Red Rock Western's 2-hour Red Rock West tour covers 7 canyons, from $104.95.

Mild or extreme

Sedona Jeep Tours' Mild Off-Road tour is 2 hours from $129.95, the gentle end of the range. Diamondback Gulch is the rough end. Pick the mild tour for passengers who want a smoother ride.

A tour with a hike

Arizona Safari's Archaeology Jeep & Hiking tour is 2.5 hours and includes a two-mile hike to ancient ruins, at the same $109 adult and $89 child price as the Rim Run Supreme.

Winter on the rim

Arizona Safari runs tours seven days a week, year-round. A Day in the West's Mogollon Rim tour may close from December to April for weather, while its 1.5-hour Pioneer Trail tour stays open in winter. Sedona Jeep Tours opens every day except Christmas, 7am to 7pm from March to October (adayinthewest.com, sedonajeeptours.com).

Ages and group size

Red Rock Western and A Day in the West take riders from age 3. Arizona Safari's Rim Run Supreme starts at age 5. Private formats cap the group: 6 on Diamondback Gulch, 2 to 5 on Soldier's Pass. On Earth Wisdom's rim tour, the per-person price drops as the group grows.
