What to Wear Snowmobiling

Last Updated: September 2026

Dress for sitting in wind at 20°F, not for the lodge parking lot. Many tours issue a suit, helmet, and boots. You still bring the layers underneath.

Quick Facts

  • Base layer that is not cotton
  • Mid layer
  • Issued bib/jacket if they have a fleet
  • Gloves that work with a throttle
  • Goggles or a helmet shield

Can I Wear Ski Clothes?

Usually yes if you layer. A ski jacket under or instead of an issued suit is common. Cotton base layers still fail. If they issue a one-piece, wear ski layers underneath, not instead of the brief.

Can I Wear Jeans?

Under an issued suit, sometimes. Jeans alone on a sled are a cold, wet mistake.

Do I Need Snow Boots?

If they do not issue boots, yes. Sneakers freeze and fill.

FAQ

**Do they provide the suit?** Many mountain tours yes. Confirm. Bring layers either way.
