Surf leads along the coast, with the most listings in Huntington Beach, while whale watching, sailing, and fishing cluster around San Diego. Stand-up paddle is widespread, and rafting is centered on Lotus and Coloma. Monterey, Santa Barbara, Long Beach, and South Lake Tahoe add further options. The National Park Service says gray whales pass San Diego from mid-to-late December through March, peaking in mid-January.
