A launch site is the place where the wing leaves the ground — and where the day’s wind rules live. Understanding the site type helps you read an operator’s page and show up ready to run. It is not a ranked tourist destination list.

• Common setups: hillside / mountain foot launch, tow launch, and some coastal ridge sites
• Landing may be the same field or a different LZ (landing zone)

Foot Launch (Hill or Mountain)

You and the pilot run until the wing lifts. Slope, surface, and wind direction matter. Closed-toe shoes are not optional. Expect briefings about when to run and when to sit.

Tow Launch

A tow system helps the wing climb where a big hill is not available. The feel of the climb differs from a pure slope launch. Read that operator’s tow briefing so you are not surprised.

Landing Zone
